How shiny can you polish an old iPod? - iPod 3rd Gen Restoration

I bought an old iPod 3rd Generation for $40 off ebay.
It doesn't turn on, and is in serious need of a clean (and pest treatment).
I'm going to sand and polish it up using different methods.
